Dolores and Eighth P.O. Box 4115, Carmel-By-The-Sea, Ca 93921
No trip to Carmel is complete without a visit to at least one of these small wineries.
A winery located deep in the Carmel Valley, it is very difficult for visitors to reach. A charming tasting room (located on Dolores between Ocean & Seventh Avenue) is less than one block from The Adobe Inn and open daily from 11 am - 6 pm. This is a perfect little stroll to taste several varietals. The emphasis is on Cabernet Sauvignon, with a small production, to insure quality. Production includes three labels of Cabernet Sauvignon, each very distinctive. The Sauvignon Blanc is also outstanding.
This is the only winery on Carmel Valley Road that offers a combined winery and tasting room. Located six miles off of Highway 1, it offers beautiful grounds, a wonderful picnic area and an elegant winery. This is a Sangiovese vineyard, the same grape used in the making of Chianti. Tours are available but reservations are strongly suggested.
Located just off Carmel Valley Road, turn right on Village Road and look for the tasting room. Chardonnay (three unique/very tasty) is over half of their production. They also offer Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Zinfandel and Cabernet.
Located on Carmel Valley Road at Carmel Valley Village, this is a 100 percent organic winery. The tasting room is quaint, and the gardens offer some very unusual sculptures that are worth viewing.
Located on Carmel Valley Road at Pilot Road, is Robert Talbott Vineyards. They specialize in only two varietals, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, resulting in very fine high quality wines. A small picnic area is available - perfect for a lunch and a glass of wine.
